The Star Brand #15 (of 19)
Let There Be Life
September 1st, 1988
The Pitt Plague begins to grow uncontrollably and, like the legendary Blob, threatens to spread unfettered across the countryside and engulf everything in its path. The only thing standing in its way is the Star Brand Child. Plus, scientists test the limits of Roger's new, perfect physique. Includes the back-up tale "Giants in the Earth!"
Government agents explore the new area around the destroyed Pittsburgh, which is a radioactive, toxic mess with strange, mutated creatures. Tentacles attack them from out of the ground.
Scientists test Roger's new body; he has been walking on a treadmill for 3 days. They want to understand how he has been brought back from the dead.
The Starchild flies into the Pitt, studying the "Pitt Juice" at the bottom. The Child realizes something is making it react crazily--the same tentacles as seen earlier. They are now crawling over the Pitt's edge.
The government tries to destroy the tentacle mass, but their helicopter is pulled down.
A man named Mr. Burnley watches over his grandson, Billy, who is badly hurt in a hospital due to the events at the Pitt.
The tentacles continue to grow, even far from Pittsburgh now. The Starchild tries to stop the creature, and gets it to move back towards the Pitt. It resists, so the Starchild has to increase its power until the creature dies. The Starchild is unhappy since it values the creature's life as much as anything else.
Ken rides his bike madly through the mountains, drinking and haunted by Myron's ghost. He wants to get the power back. Distracted by Myron, he drives off the edge of a cliff and his bike explodes.
In the back-up story, a man tries to get across the border to Canada, but is stopped by border agents. He uses his powers to try to escape, but one of the agents uses his own powers to stop him. The agent decides to use those powers, which he had hidden up to now, in the service of the government.
